Internet Stalking

Question: How do I protect myself from online stalking?
Answer: Some of the things you can do to protect yourself from online stalking are: be careful about not revealing personal details about yourself, unless they're on a reputable secure site (eg; internet banking) and don’t disclose personal information to a stranger on the internet. For more advice please see the Network of Surviving Stalking website.

Question: I think I am being stalked online. What shall I do?
Answer: Log all evidence at first notice. Download and retain all relevant e-mail for any potential subsequent police investigation. Ensure you have saved copies on disk. Contact the site administrator of the alledged stalker's Internet Service Provider (ISP) or, in the case of e-mail, the system from which the alledged stalker is mailing you. Often sites have an address called postmaster@[ispname].com where problems can be reported. If the stalking persists, contact the police. Make sure you have concrete evidence (e.g. downloaded messages, chat room transcripts or web page URLs). For more advice please see the Network of Surviving Stalking website.
