Consumer issues

Question: Where can I get advice on many issues/subjects including amongst others: consumer help, legal, financial, education, employment, health, housing, immigration, legal system etc.?

Answer: If you live in the UK you should try the Citizens Advice Bureau

Question: Where do I go to complain regarding ISP’s e.g. lack of service despite charges being drawn from customers’ accounts.

Answer: You should check your contract. Try your ISP first. If unsuccesful, try Trading Standards (‘Sale of Goods Act’).  Trading Standards are able to investigate complaints regarding services and goods.

Question: Where can I get general advice regarding consumer rights?

Answer: Try the Office of Fair Trading (OFT).  This is a Government department aimed at protecting customers by ensuring that trading practices are fair.  Note:  The OFT are unable to help with individual enquiries but do provide advice on many subjects.

Or the Consumers Association.  An independent campaigning organisation for consumers’ rights who publish the monthly generated Which? Magazine (and others) that gives advice on various topics.

Or BBC Watchdog programme.

Or the Financial Services Authority. An independent body that regulates the financial services industry in the UK.

Or the Consumer Direct Scam section.
