Membership Benefits
Membership of the IWF includes a package of benefits which are designed to complement our services.
Expertise
The IWF offers a fast-track reporting facility for members for content within our remit and a specific IWF point of contact for abuse teams at member companies. Our Internet Content Analysts provide assessments of content which our member companies are concerned may be in breach of UK legislation. In some cases we will then liaise with the relevant police agency and partner an officer with a member of staff at the company concerned to ensure the matter is dealt with effectively. We collaborate with members to help ensure new products or services are developed with good practice in mind and with due regard for their potential abuse. We can provide wider training for member companies who want to keep their staff updated on our role and best practice in the area we work in.
Information and Resources
The IWF provides members with access to news, information and resources related to IWF’s remit including best practice guidance, updates on new legislation and existing laws. Our Best Practice Guide to handling indecent images of children is a reference document for IT and HR professionals to ensure company policies and procedures are consistent with the Protection of Children Act 1978 and the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
Events
Throughout the year, there are a range of events, meetings and activities that IWF members can get involved in. These include regular Funding Council meetings, occasional industry working groups, an annual strategy day as well as opportunities to participate in profile-raising initiatives such as IWF Awareness Day and visit the IWF office for a Members Briefing Day. We also share with our members details of our stakeholder’s conferences and events.
Publicity
Joining the IWF is a public demonstration of a company’s stance against the sexual exploitation of children and criminal online content. We work with our members to publish a joint press release announcing membership and their support for our work.
The IWF features members’ logos on our website, Annual Report and in presentations both in the UK and internationally. IWF members are entitled to use the IWF logo on their website and in their corporate literature and we provide a multimedia suite of marketing material to enable members to promote our partnership.
Public policy
The IWF is internationally-recognised as an organisation that is committed to and effective at minimising the availability of criminal online content. IWF membership provides opportunities to contribute to the development of internet policy within our remit, play a role in the UK’s self-regulatory framework for dealing with criminal content online and to participate in an international family of opinion shapers on internet issues including online safety and child protection.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Supporting the IWF through membership can be a visible, tangible and valuable means of demonstrating corporate social responsibility (CSR) in a way that is relevant to the wider online sector including stakeholders, investors and staff. Membership shows commitment to reducing some aspects of internet criminality that may otherwise undermine confidence amongst internet users. The public, Government and media with a particular interest in internet affairs are regularly made aware of the effectiveness of self-regulation in this area and the companies who enable us to operate.
