Internet Evolution and Membership Diversity

The IWF has recently announced the membership of 8e6 Technologies, eModeration, News International and Virtual Universe.

These members join 70 other companies and organisations from a variety of business sectors, including internet service providers, content service providers, newsgroup providers, search engines, filtering companies, mobile operators and financial organisations who work in partnership the IWF, supporting our work combating potentially illegal images online.

The diversity of the current IWF membership reflects a rapidly evolving internet industry both in terms of the content available and its accessibility.

The advent of new technologies has enabled a generation of internet users to create their own content and publish it online.  This advance has brought with it new challenges for companies operating in the user-generated content arena and the IWF now has a number of members from the content moderation and photo/video-sharing sectors.

Developments in mobile technology mean that the internet is now accessible wherever you are and you can upload, download and share content using a hand held device.  As a result, in addition to the mobile network operators, a number of companies offering mobile services are now members of the IWF.

It is the IWF mission to work in partnership with the internet industry to minimise the availability of illegal content online.  All of our members have an important role to play in helping the IWF achieve this target in the ever-changing medium that is the internet today.

We would like to thank all of our members and sponsors for their support of the IWF.  We look forward to continuing our relationships with all of our partners and working together towards our vision of combating child abuse images online.

If your company operates within the online industry and you are interested in joining the IWF, please contact our Relationship Coordinator, Rachel Hopper, by emailing members@iwf.org.uk.
