RM join IWF as funding member

The Internet Watch Foundation is pleased to announce that RM, the leading supplier of software, services and systems to UK Education, has just joined as a funding member.

The major part of financial support for the IWF comes from organisations commonly associated with the Internet including ISPs, Telcos, content providers and mobile operators.

As the channels and responsibility for the dissemination of Internet content expands and broadens, we have found that an increasingly diverse range of companies wish to support and work with us.

In parallel with raising awareness of our key messages, we look to assist organisations providing online services. RM is the largest ISP provider to education, delivering some 2.5 million hours of Internet connectivity to UK schools every month through its Internet for Learning ISP business (IFL).

Some key facts and figures are as follows:
  • More than 7,000 schools connect to the Internet via RM's IFL.
  • Since its release in 2001, over 3000 schools have subscribed to RM's Internet filtering service, RM SafetyNet Plus.
  • RM SafetyNet, the most popular Internet filtering system in UK education, uses a database of 500,000 banned web sites. It also uses several hundred "wildcard" filters which are estimated to filter out many millions more potentially inappropriate sites.
  • The number of banned web sites is set to increase as the IWFs list of illegal web material is added to the RM SafetyNet suite of products.
  • Internet For Learning hosts some 7500 school web sites.
Tim Pearson, CEO, RM :
"I am delighted that RM is to become a member of Internet Watch Foundation (IWF). As an ISP provider to schools, Internet safety is a fundamental concern for RM and this partnership will add significant value to its existing web filtering products. RM is committed to helping schools filter inappropriate content and thanks to the support of IWF, is now able to offer its customers extra protection against illegal material".
