Report Process

Text Description of the Report Process

1. Report submitted via www.iwf.org.uk - if an email address is provided, a confirmation email with a unique reference number is sent to reporter.

2. Reported content is assessed by the IWF as either not potentially criminal under UK law (in which case no further action taken) or as potentially criminal under UK law.

3. If content is potentially criminal under UK law, the IWF trace the source server of reported content.

  • If the content is not hosted in the UK and is child sexual abuse content only, the IWF notifies the international Hotline and relevant police agency for investigation and removal. The webpage is added to the IWF block list to prevent accidental access until the content is removed. The reporter is updated if feedback has been requested. The IWF liaises with the international Hotline and police agency and monitors the webpage until the content is removed. When the content is removed, the webpage is removed from the IWF block list.
  • If the content is UK hosted and is assessed as either child sexual abuse content, criminally obscene adult content or non-photographic child sexual abuse images, the IWF notifies the relevant police agency for investigation. A notice is sent to the hosting provider to preserve evidence and remove content. The reporter is updated if feedback has been requested. The webpage is monitored until the content is removed

Please note: The IWF uses the term child sexual abuse content to accurately reflect the gravity of the images we deal with. Please note that child pornography, child porn and kiddie porn are not acceptable terms. The use of such language acts to legitimise images which are not pornography, rather, they are permanent records of children being sexually exploited and as such should be referred to as child sexual abuse images. If you see such content online please report them to the IWF.
