Sir Rodney Brooke CBE

Sir Rodney Brooke CBE was appointed as Independent Board Member in August 2007.
Sir Rodney is Chair of the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher
Education and the Independent Panel for
Remuneration of Councillors in London. He is also a
member of the National Information Governance Board. He is an Honorary Fellow at the Institute of Public Policy
at Birmingham University.
A solicitor by profession, Sir Rodney’s first career was in local
government, where he was Chief Executive of West Yorkshire County
Council and the City of Westminster Council. He was Chief Executive of
the Association of Metropolitan Authorities from 1990 until its merger
with the Local Government Association in 1997.
Sir Rodney was formerly Chair of the General Social Care Council,
the Bradford District Health Authority, the National Electricity
Consumers' Council and the Governors of Pimlico School. He chaired the
Commission on Governance in the Third Sector and the Commission on
Accessible Transport in London and the London Grants Review Board. He
has been a member of the Council of University College Hospital and of
the Accountancy Ethical Standards Board and a non-executive director of
the Riverside Health Authority and the Westminster Primary Care Trust.
Sir Rodney has also been a trustee of the Community Development
Foundation.
He has written widely on public policy and ethics and has advised
the Governments of China, Colombia, the Gambia, Guyana, Hungary, Poland
and Russia.
Sir Rodney was appointed Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London in
1989 and a Commander of the British Empire in 1996. He was knighted in
2007.
