The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) regularly invites experts from a range of relevant professional backgrounds to carry out an inspection of its Hotline process and staff support mechanisms against external policies with a view to providing independent reassurance to their Members, Government and parties with a particular interest in IWF affairs. On 30th March 2011 a team of experts headed by Commander Allan Gibson (Metropolitan Police Service) conducted such an inspection at the IWF premises.

iBoss Web Filters (http://www.iboss.com), providers of gateway security for large organizations, has joined the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) to combat online images of child sex abuse. The UK-based foundation battles online child sexual abuse images in partnership with police, government and the online industry worldwide.

The IWF welcomes zvelo as its newest member. The partnership confirms a joint commitment to prevent the online revictimisation of child sexual abuse victims and protect online users from inadvertent exposure to criminal content.

Mobile phone companies, social networking providers and children’s charities will show their commitment to help children stay safe online today (Tuesday 14 June) at the UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS) 2nd Annual Summit. The Summit will bring together industry, government and charities to discuss ground-breaking new technologies designed to protect children and share best practice.

An international ‘notice and takedown’ system should be implemented to combat the global problem of online child sexual abuse - this is the key finding of an independent report by Dr Weixiao Wei, commissioned by the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) and funded by the Nominet Trust.

The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) is delighted to announce two new appointments to its Board. Brian Webb, Head of Internet Customer Security & Specialist Services at BT and Andrew Yoward, Head of Support at Yorkshire and Humberside Grid for Learning (YHGfL) have been appointed as Industry Trustees bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to the IWF Board.

A new service for reporting all hate crimes online has been launched by the police. The website, called True Vision, is supported by all forces in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and can be accessed at www.report-it.org.uk. All reports of incitement to racial hatred content hosted in the UK previously reported to the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) should now be reported directly to True Vision.

The UK’s Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) today launched its Annual Report 2010 in which it reveals the success of a new collaborative project to have child sexual abuse images removed from the web faster across the globe. Results show a dramatic reduction in the length of time these criminal images remain active, down from around a month only a year ago, to an average lifespan of just 12 days today, irrespective of where in the world they are hosted and only a matter of hours if hosted in the UK.
